Analysis of the Effects of the EU Trade Agreements with Australia and New Zealand

The changed geopolitical situation, the failure of multilateral approaches and the new challenges in terms of ecological and digital transformation call for a new strategic orientation of the EU, which also focuses on cooperation and deepening of trade relations with like-minded partners. Against this background, the aim of this project is to provide an overview of the contractual components of the two EU trade agreements with Australia and New Zealand and to classify them on the one hand regarding the economic interdependencies between the EU and Australia and New Zealand, and on the other hand with regard to the geoeconomic significance and the economic and geopolitical objectives of the EU. The core of the project is a model-based quantitative assessment of the expected effects of the two EU trade agreements with Australia and New Zealand at sectoral level for both the EU and Austria on the one hand, and for Australia and New Zealand on the other, considering international value-added links.
